The fashion style was very vintage looking in the beginning. Many emos went to thrift stores to shop for printed t-shirts and flannels. Thick framed glasses, sweat bands, and messenger bags were also a pretty big thing at the time.

In emo culture, feelings are placed at a premium and emo fashion can only be described as being extremely non-threatening. The hair is typically dyed jet-black, and in some instances it is spiked and can contain other colors as well. For the ladies, black nail polish is also widely used. In the Emo world, make-up is utilized by both males and females.


Emo is a genre of music that originated from hardcore punk, though today’s Emo is heavily influenced by pop punk. The Emo lifestyle has been burdened with many stereotypes, such as all Emo’s are depressed, wear all-black and cut themselves.
